CHÂTEAU DES MOINES
1904 The father of William Darnajou, a cooper, practised mixed farming on this land. In the 1940s William and Léontine Darnajou succeeded to the property and continued the activity. The Domain at this time was divided between vines, vegetable growing and livestock rearing.
1940 On the death of his father in 1994, Jean Darnajou, representing the fourth generation, took over the family business at the age of just 20, managing it with the help of his mother Colette. The family tradition was maintained with progressive modernisation of techniques and equipment : (temperature control, pneumatic press…..)
1960 In the 1960s William’s son Henri Darnajou developed the vine growing side of the business. The wine was at first sold largely in bulk to the Bordeaux trade but very quickly Henri developed the sale of his wine in bottle, creating a nation-wide network of customers.
2004 In 2004 Jean joined forces with his brother-in-law, Patrick Merle, to create the SCEA du Château des Moines. This partnership has permitted the commercial expansion of the business.
