Meyer Family Cellars

The year was 1987 and Justin and Bonny Meyer were at the height of their powers, producing Silver Oak Cabernets that ranked among the best in the world.  Privately, they dreamed about creating a family winery on the side, something for them to scale back into, as well as creating a setting in which their son Matt could hone his winemaking skill.  They created Meyer Family Cellars and took their family vineyard “Bonny's” with them.  This old-vine Cabernet parcel was the heart and soul of Silver Oak's most legendary wines and the Meyers began building their little dream with Bonny's as the core.  Today Matt and his wife Karen produce these august and age-worthy Cabernets in the style of his parents, great Syrah from the emerging Yorkville Highlands and beautiful Chardonnay from the Anderson Valley.  In addition to their wine endeavors, the Meyer Family is a prominent investor in a variety of philanthropic groups centering on sustainability and education.

WINEMAKERS MATT AND KAREN MEYER

Matt and Karen Meyer combine to produce impressive California wines. Matt learned the family winemaking style by growing up in the cellars of Silver Oak.  Karen is an Australian with a degree in enology and substantial experience in winemaking around the world.  They met in Oregon's Willamette Valley during a crush at Argyle Winery and they fell in love.  Now their winemaking powers are joined in the pursuit of two Meyer Family goals – producing rock-solid Oakville Cabernet in the tradition of Silver Oak, and to explore the untapped potential of the Yorkville Highlands, potentially one of California's next great appellations.
